Video Consultations

At Derma Reading, we understand that visiting us in person isn't always an option, which is why we offer video consultations.

Getting the most out of your appointment

In order for video conferencing to be successful, you will need:

  • A high-resolution webcam or phone camera that you know how to use.
  • A high-speed internet connection, greater than 2MB/s.
  • A private room with good, bright light from a similar direction to the camera (not behind you).
  • The right software/web browser as advised when the appointment is booked.

In order to be able to reach a diagnosis on any skin condition, a dermatologist needs to be able to see it clearly. Things that are difficult to see in person will be impossible to see on a video, so if possible please email a photo that shows your condition clearly to admin@derma.co.uk (ideally 24 hours before your appointment).

With decent photos, even if the video conference quality is poor (or has to be carried out by telephone), the consultation can still go ahead.

Charges for video consultations

Just as much (and often more) work goes into a successful video consultation as goes into a face-to-face consultation, so the costs are the same. The doctor will still need to review your notes (and photos) before the consultation, consult with you, issue prescriptions and will write to you and/or your GP. All insurance companies have recognised this and have agreed to cover the cost of video/telephone consultations (subject to prior authorisation).

However, we recognise that on rare occasions it may not be possible to diagnose something over video/phone. If this is the case then the doctor may bring you in for a face-to-face appointment, for which there will be no charge. This is offered at the discretion of the doctor.

Where you require a procedure or tests, you will need to come into the clinic. As always at Derma Reading, if you are paying for the appointment yourself there is no charge for this face-to-face follow-up appointment where you are being charged for the procedure/tests.

Prescriptions

If you have a video consultation and need a prescription, you can either pick this up at the clinic, or you can make use of Pharmacierge.

If you wish to use Pharmacierge:

  • Your doctor will send an electronic prescription to Pharmacierge.
  • You will receive an SMS or email with a link to a payment site.
  • Once payment is made, the medicine will be despatched to you (normally next working day, but may be delayed due to timing of the payment or availability of the medicine).
